More Than 13 Reasons Why

At this point I believe that most of you already watched the new series called '13 Reasons Why'. Of the most of you that I watched it, I'm pretty sure that most formed their own opinion about the show as well. I'm not here to fight against your opinion, I'm just here to highlight more than 13 reasons why I think this show can do more positive than negative.
- If you haven't watched it, I just added a bit of spoilers to justify some of my reasons why.

Reason #1.
There's something called "too much", know your limits and know when enough is enough. Of Course it's okay to have fun, ofcourse it's okay to have a drink or 2, but there's always limits to how much fun is fun and when you had 1 too many drinks. Don't put yourself in any situation where you're not in the state of mind to make your own decisions or vulnerable to be taken advantage of.
- The character Jessica was sadly a victim of this situation. Although the situation itself could've been helped by bystanders, she herself was defenseless because of her current state from excessive intoxication.

Reason #2.
Taking responsibility for your actions. Your actions have reactions, and sometimes those reactions can be negative. Living with relief is better than living with guilt, if you know you're responsible for something that could have negative repercussions, own up to it!
- When driving home, Sheri accidently hit into a road sign. An honest mistake that was ignored because of lack of responsibility for others. There was a fatal accident that night that caused Sheri to live with the feeling of guilt. Not sure if it would've been avoided if the sign was up, but the possibility is enough to stir a guilty conscious.

Reason #3.
Words are just words, attitudes are just attitudes. People will not always say what you want to hear, just as you don't always tell other what they want to hear. Don't let what people say to you or how they act with you influence you negatively.

Reason #4.
Most of the time what you're looking for his right in front of you. You may think that what you're looking for can't be found, but if you open your eyes you'll realize that it's been hiding in plain sight all the time.
- Hannah had numerous attempts with different guys, with different friends trying to look for that one who she can feel comfortable with. While doing this, all her failed experiences she ended up falling back to Clay. Only realizing when she reached her limit already that Clay has always been there for her, Clay was the one, the guy/ the friend she's been searching for has always been by her side.

Reason #5.
Having a lot of people around you doesn't match up to having even 1 friend around you. Don't take the person(s) in your life for granted, having a friend is worth everything.
- While on her search for acceptance, for a group. Hannah inserted herself amongst different groups of people to try fill that missing void she felt. She realized experience after experience that this wasn't true friendship. When she realized how her friendship with Clay makes her feel complete she was able to see that just one person can make the difference.
Reason #6.
You're NOT a consultant, so stop consulting with yourself only. If you need to express something, if something is bothering you, do not let it bottle up, speak to someone, let it out! There are always people willing to listen, there are always people there to tell you what you NEED to hear.
- All of these different characters in the show bottled up their feelings and let it get the best of them. This caused most of them to make bad decisions such as; Hannah's suicide, Clay exploding on a regular basis, Justin to lose Jessica and his only stable ground, Tyler to commit fatal acts towards himself, and many more. There were many people willing to listen to each of these characters, if only they were open to expressing themselves.

Reason #7.
Running never fixes anything. Removing yourself from an equation doesn't change the result. If you don't like something the only solution is to fix it. If you run from it, the problem will still be there, the problem will become someone else's problem. Don't take the coward's way out and leave it for someone else to deal with.
- Justin ran from confrontation on what Bryce did to his girlfriend Jessica. Because of this Jessica's life was spiraling out of control, from smoking more to excessive drinking. Justin thought not addressing the situation would change things, but it never did. This made Bryce feel more in control and lead him to rape yet another person.....Hannah.

Reason #8.
Greed is a person's worst option. You may think your actions only affect you, but it affects others around you. If you choose an option that does more damage than fixing, you're absolutely greedy and selfish. Life is not only about you, there are many who acknowledge your life as part of theirs.
- Hannah thought that suicide would end her problems, it would make everything better. It did end her problems for herself, but the problem continued through other people's lives. Apart from that, she made everything worse....especially for her family, for Clay! The people that loved her dearly suffered through it all more than she could imagine.

Reason #9.
Stop craving attention. We're all human, we're all the same, some just more favored than others. You can't force people to like you, you can't expect everyone to like you.....DO NOT FEEL LIKE LESS OF A PERSON BECAUSE EVERYONE DOESN'T LIKE YOU.

Reason #10.
Life doesn't only have ups, there are also downs. There's a point in time when you need to accept that you are living in reality and not a fantasy. Everything isn't going to go the way you hope for. It's okay to be hopeful, but don't expect a life with no upsets.

Reason #11.
You are not the only person experiencing challenges. You may think that life is bad, but chances are, you haven't really experienced a bad life. You're not the only person that have negative experiences, there are others just like you, there are those worse than you.

Reason #12.
Don't ignore a cry for help. Sometimes people are in need of help but are too afraid to ask. Don't be like that person, if you even suspect that someone looks like they need help, ASK! Never be afraid to ask someone if they need help, because you just might be the only one who can save them.
- Jessica was suffering, day by day she suffered and just needed help. She could accept what had happened to her, she didn't know how to deal with it. The drugs, the alcohol are both a cry for help. Her friends stood-by knowing, watching her go deeper and deeper while they could've reached out from the start.

Reason #13.
You decide your own fate. No matter what you may go through, no matter what you may experience, your future and your life is in your own hands. Whatever you do isn't what someone else is did to you, but what you allowed and did to yourself.
- Hannah had horrible experiences in high school, but she could've controlled her own fate and made it positive. She gave in and let people, the experiences get the best of her. She let the outside influence drive her off the cliff. Every step she took forward is controlled by you...resist and fight back!

Reason #14.
This is a series, this is just a perspective. What you watched isn't a solution, what you watched is simply a created experience through the life of actors. This movie gives insight on how some may react to certain situations, not claiming that this is the answer or solution. Take some time out and watch the series with an open mind, absorb the messages. Be wary of the negatives, but only keep the positive, for that's the only way you will be able to better yourself, gain new perspective and be able to grow to help yourself and others.

This is just some of my thoughts on the Netflix series '13 reasons why'. I must say, despite the lengthy dragged on episodes, it's an interesting enjoyable watch. I recommend this series to you.
